Large, modern data centers are not allowed to be built in Eugene, Oregon, and the city will deny any future land use or building permit applications for these high-resource facilities. A data center is a building packed with computers, servers, network equipment, and storage systems that process and hold data for our digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI). They are not all the same; modern, large-scale data centers are massive operations that are highly energy and resource-intensive, whereas smaller, traditional data centers have much lower footprints.
- City Council will learn more about data centers and discuss at a scheduled December 14 work session.
- Dedicated webpage where Eugene residents can learn more and stay up to date on data centers.
